Child Protection - Children First Act 2015

The main areas covered will be:

  • An overview of Children First legislation – how this will impact ‘relevant services’ (as defined in Schedule 1 in the Children First Act 2015).  Additional information is forthcoming in the Safeguarding Guidance currently being drafted by Túsla
  • An overview of Child Safeguarding Statements
  • An overview of the role and responsibilities of Mandated Persons
  • An overview of the role and responsibilities of Designated Liaison Persons
  • An overview of the range and levels of training available in relation to child protection.

Louise Monaghan
National Youth Council of Ireland.

Louise Monaghan is a contract trainer with the Child Protection Programme in the National Youth Council of Ireland (NYCI). The CPP is responsible for building the capacity of the youth sector to address and fulfil its responsibilities in relation to safeguarding and child protection as per Children First 2011. Louise has been working in the area of child protection training for the last 20 years across a number of organisations within the broader voluntary and community sector. She has developed and delivered training in child protection at a number of levels, including awareness level, Designated Liaison Person and Board of Management training. She also sits on the GAA’s National Child Welfare and Protection Committee and is a consultant with the National Office for Safeguarding Children in the Catholic Church.

By the end of the workshop participants will:

  • Have an awareness of the Children First Act 2015
  • Have an understanding of the development and content of a Child Safeguarding Statement
  • Have an awareness of the role and responsibilities of Mandated Persons and Designated Liaison Persons.
