Trainer: Derek O'Reilly is Training & Support Services Manager with the Carmichael Centre and focuses on coordinating management and leadership training programmes as well as providing support for groups engaged in organisational capacity building and quality assurance development.
Target Audience
Those who are, or are about to become Chairpersons of Community & Voluntary Organisations. Please note this is a two-evening course. 10 FREE places to DFI Member Organisations; first come, first served, limited to one place per member.
Content
Being a Chairperson in a community and voluntary sector organisation is a challenging role and one for which many Chairpersons feel ill-prepared. The aim of this course is to help Chairpersons understand their role more fully and to develop the skills needed to undertake that role successfully. Participants will receive a copy of "Chairpersons as Effective Leaders" published by the Disability Federation of Ireland. There will also be an input from Boardmatch Ireland.
Outcomes
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
* Define their role as Chairperson of their organisation
* Manage the board and its development
* Establish and maintain an effective relationship with the CEO, manager or co-ordinator
* Develop their skills in chairing meetings
* Understand the key elements of the Charities Act
